The Electric Horseman

The Electric Horseman
I saw this on television this morning, and entirely by chance. I'm sick and feeling it, and wanted to zone out in front of the television for a little while this morning. I turned the television on and before I even changed the channel, this movie was starting. To be honest, I'd never heard of it before. I was quite taken with it. There's something about Robert Redford; his stuff is so hit or miss with me. But I liked this a lot. And I know she's a polarizing figure for a lot of people, but I always like Jane Fonda when I see her on screen. I've only just learned that Sydney Pollack directed the movie when I went to include the movie on my Vox, which makes me even more impressed with it. Whenever I see Sydney Pollack interviewed, I'm always of the mind that he's very, very smart, but so completely unpretentious about it. And somehow, that's how I felt about this movie... it was nothing terribly fancy, and nothing terribly exciting... but it was smart, and savvy, and in the know, but very unpretentious about it. This wasn't a 'serious' or 'important' film, but it was easy to watch, very nicely directed, and the cinematography and score were both right on the money. I enjoyed it. Memorable lines... Jane Fonda: I'm just trying to be pleasant. You get so worked up about everything. Robert Redford: What have I got to be worked up about??? I've only got a stolen horse; everybody except the Coast Guard is after me; I've got nothin' but miles of open country to cross; and now I'm carrying a crazy woman around wearin' shoes from Bloomingbirds who thinks she's seen a rattlesnake round up. and... Jane Fonda: Mr. Steele, why were you forty-five minutes late to the press conference? Robert Redford: Well, I'd like to aplogize for that. I was giving mouth to mouth resuscitation to a bottle of tequila. And we lost her, too.
